The assessments on the Learning Portal for Being a Reader, Expanded Second Edition still align with the instructions for those using the classic print materials. If you are still using Being a Reader, Second Edition (not Expanded), you can still use the new assessments without having to adjust timing or instruction. While a few of the texts changed, the focus of the instruction in the lessons did not. The assessments measure the skills taught, not specific content from the stories read.
A few notes:
- Class Assessments: These observational assessments did not change.
- Student Progress Assessments: This assessment still aligns as the focus of instruction did not change.
- Vocabulary Alignment: The instructed vocabulary words remain identical across versions, so vocabulary words still align.
- Comprehension Checks for Older Texts: If a Comprehension Check is needed for a text or title that is not part of the new version, one can be provided upon request.
