The Being a Reader™ D-ELD component provides daily lessons for each grade level, K–5. It is not an isolated language program. Rather, it has been carefully designed to “build into and from” the Being a Reader Reading strand lessons. This connection to core content gives students a clear foundation for meaningful language learning during D-ELD instruction. The tight connection to Being a Reader also affords students meaningful opportunities to readily apply the English language skills and knowledge they learn in D-ELD. Above all, the program is intended to accelerate EL students’ achievement of high levels of English language proficiency and academic success by providing language-rich, intellectually rigorous, and strategic ELD instruction.
