It is essential to keep families updated on their child’s progress throughout the year. When a unit in the Being a Reader program is finished, we recommend that you complete the Student Progress Assessment Record, which is in the “Assessment” section of each Being a Reader Teacher’s Manual (starting in Unit 2). Make a copy of this completed assessment record to send home to families to report progress.
In addition, the Family Letters available for each unit of Being a Reader can accompany the Student Progress Assessment Record. The family letters are available in English and Spanish. These letters update families on the content covered in the unit and offer suggestions on how to support their child’s learning at home. For more information about Family Letters, see the “Building the Home-School Connection” section in the Being a Reader Implementation Handbook.
Keeping families informed throughout the year strengthens the connection between school and home, ensuring that they are aware of their child’s progress.
