Some students would still benefit from the use of SIPPS Challenge. Sometimes when students have been exposed to the words on Section F of the placement assessment, they are able to read them by sight.
Consider the following questions:
- Do these students know the six syllable types?
- Do they know the meaning of common morphemes and how it may change the meaning of a word?
- Do they know how to divide polysyllabic words by syllables?
- Do they know how to leverage word analysis strategies when they encounter an unknown polysyllabic word?
- Do they write polysyllabic words accurately?
If the answer to these questions is no, they would likely benefit from the instruction in Challenge.
