Many schools leverage SIPPS to accelerate student reading progress in the summer.
For students who are new to SIPPS in the summer:
- Use the standard placement and grouping procedures.
For students who received SIPPS instruction during the school year:
- Consider the length of time between their last school year lesson and their first summer school lesson.
- If the time period is short, students can likely start on the next lesson in the instructional sequence.
- If the time period is longer than a couple of weeks, students may need to back up a few lessons to experience some review of content.
- Consider leveraging the Mastery Tests to support your decision making. For example, you may readminister the last Mastery Test taken during the school year to determine what content students have maintained mastery of and what specific content may need review.
