Students in grades 4–12 who still need K–2 foundational skills instruction should be given the SIPPS 4–12 Placement Assessment and placed into either SIPPS Plus or SIPPS Challenge. Be sure to utilize the Results box on page 1 of the Placement Assessment to ensure an accurate placement.
SIPPS Plus covers the K–2 foundational skills scope and sequence in an accelerative format and is supported by the connected text Dreams on Wheels, which is respectful of and appropriate for older readers. As you progress through instruction in SIPPS Plus, attend to the embedded supports such as Decoding Support, Instructional Self-Check, and Mastery Test Interpretation. This guidance will help you to adjust instruction to best meet the needs of your students.
