As you wrap up the school year, you will want to engage in data collection that will prioritize instruction going into the next school year. Document end-of-year information in a way that can be shared with the following year’s teacher.
Progress Tracking Form for Sets 1–5
Use the Progress Tracking Form as a tool for collecting end-of-year information.
To collect end-of-year data, use the form to indicate sounds and high-frequency words that are tricky for students. The data collected will help next year’s teacher know what sounds and high-frequency words to review with students prior to starting formal Being a Reader Small-Group instruction next fall.
Last-Passed Mastery Test for Sets 1–5
The Mastery Tests are the record of what students know at the end of the year.
To prepare for the new school year, save students' last-passed Mastery Test, or enter the data in ClassView Pro, to help next year’s teacher identify the starting point of instruction.
A Note About Using the Placement Assessments for Small-Group Foundational Skills Sets 1–5 (K–1 and Grade 2)
The Placement Assessments are not designed to be pre- and post-tests. They are designed to quickly and efficiently assess what your students know and to place them in the appropriate set in Small-Group Foundational Skills Sets 1–5. The Mastery Tests are the record of what students know at the end of the year.
Documenting End-of-Year Information for Small-Group Comprehension
Consider keeping records on:
- Informal Reading Observations
- Student Progress Assessments
- Which students have read which texts
- Which students have received instruction on which strategies
- District or school-specific assessments
