Strategic correction routines for students’ errors are a critical component of the instruction in Sets 1–5. These routines are designed to help students correct their errors in ways that reduce the chances of future errors occurring. The corrective feedback is intentionally designed to be more instructional than just telling the students the correct answer.
Review the following for support on corrective feedback:
- Instructional Cues Document: Locate the correction for each routine listed.
- Videos: Watch a video of the routine and the appropriate correction on the Learning Portal.
It is important to provide immediate feedback when students make errors during the decoding and high-frequency word portions of the lessons. Provide feedback to the entire group rather than draw attention to an individual student. Intervening immediately will ensure that students do not repeat mistakes or become frustrated with attempts to read a word.
