Implementing the SEEDS Qualities is central to the pedagogy of Pinecone Path. The SEEDS framework outlines five essential qualities for adult-child interactions: Sensitivity (S), Encouragement (E), Education (E), Development Through Doing (D), and Self-Image Support (S). By focusing on these qualities, educators foster positive interactions, build trusting relationships, and create a supportive learning environment that helps children thrive socially and cognitively.
Here is how you can implement and reflect on the SEEDS Qualities in your classroom:
The program provides explicit tools and prompts to integrate the SEEDS Qualities into daily practice:
- Weekly Focus: A "SEEDS Qualities Connection" feature appears at the end of each unit's Week Overview. This feature suggests focusing on and practicing a specific SEEDS Quality (Sensitivity, Encouragement, Education, Development Through Doing, or Self-Image) as you work with students throughout that unit.
- Do Ahead Reminders: Whole-class and small-group overviews include reminders in the Do Ahead section, prompting educators to consider the SEEDS Qualities as they work with students.
- Instructional Self-Checks: Instructional self-checks, which appear after the first week in every unit and multiple times in the small-group sets, help educators reflect on their use of the SEEDS Qualities in their teaching practice.
- Reflection Tool: The SEEDS Qualities Reflection Tool for Pinecone Path provides a series of questions to guide you in reflecting on student needs (including the needs of multilingual learners) and making decisions about how to scaffold their learning to meet those needs.
