While the instructional design of the program hasn’t changed, and earlier SIPPS editions are proven to be and remain highly effective, purchasing any or all of the Fifth Edition components will ensure you have the most up-to-date resources for supporting your students. Learn more about the components sold separately to support previous SIPPS editions here.
The tips below will help you integrate new SIPPS, Fifth Edition components into your SIPPS Third or Fourth Edition instruction.
- When using the SIPPS, Fifth Edition Handheld High-Frequency Word Cards, be sure to look at the back of each card as it now identifies any regular sounds that have been previously taught to support direct instruction in connecting letter-sound correspondences.
- Note: If you are using SIPPS Beginning, you will need to choose to either use the Third/Fourth Edition High-Frequency Word Scope and Sequence along with the support on the back of the Fifth Edition cards OR adjust to the Fifth Edition High-Frequency Word Scope and Sequence using the new cards since there are minor differences in the scope and sequences between editions.
- When using the SIPPS, Fifth Edition Handheld Spelling-Sound Cards, be sure to use the articulatory gestures and pronunciation support on the back of the card to help with in-the-moment guidance.
- When using SIPPS Plus, Fifth Edition, you will notice updated stories as well as additional review stories to allow for more student practice opportunities. This document will support you in using the Fifth Edition version of Dreams on Wheels with your students. Learn more about using the Fifth Edition of Dreams on Wheels here.
- When using the Challenge Vocabulary supplement, be sure to claim the appropriate license on the Learning Portal in order to access the digital resources. Learn more here.
