One purpose of assessing each student’s accuracy once per week is to ensure students are reading texts at a level of accuracy that will promote comprehension and meaning making (95% accuracy or higher). If the current lesson's text is too difficult for a student, provide stories from earlier lessons for the fluency routine. See Appendix B in your Teacher's Manual for more guidance.
A second purpose of assessing each student’s accuracy once per week is to determine the point at which a student reads at a rate of 60 correct words per minute or higher. At that point, the student can shift to silent reading (or Individualized Daily Reading) for the fluency routine. See Appendix B in your Teacher's Manual for more guidance.
