SIPPS provides an accelerative reading intervention program designed to help older striving readers develop the accuracy and automaticity they need for fluent, independent reading. Therefore, accurate placement assessment is essential to determining whether SIPPS is the best intervention for older students. If the Grades 4-12 Placement Assessment indicates that the student would benefit from SIPPS Plus or SIPPS Challenge, that instruction should be a priority. If the assessment indicates that the student may not need SIPPS Challenge, the student may be better served by instruction that focuses primarily on language comprehension rather than word recognition.
