On the Learning Portal, activities, assessments and texts are “assigned” to students.
Getting Started with Digital Assessments and ClassView Pro
- Open the class you want to make assignments from.
- Navigate to the assessment that you would like to assign. Take note of the description just below the assessment title, which will be one of three possibilities:
- Have student complete
- Record student responses
- Observation and participation tracker
- On the right side of the assessment card, there is a dropdown with three options:
- Assign to students
- Record student responses
- Observe this class
- Another option is to select Go to ClassView Pro and assign and/or complete the assessment from that dashboard.
Assign to Students
This flow is used for assessments that students will complete from their accounts. Clicking this option will open a window in which you can adjust aspects of the assignment, including which students will complete the assessment, the due date, and where the resulting data will flow to. When you click Assign, the assessment will appear in the selected students’ accounts.
Record Student Responses
This flow is used for individual student assessments in which the student reads aloud and you mark their responses. Here are the steps to complete this type of assessment:
- Locate the assessment you want to complete. The student cards (ie, what the student will read from) will be located nearby. Have a printout of the student cards ready.
- In the card for the assessment you want to assign, choose Record student responses from the dropdown list. A window will appear that allows you to choose which student you are assessing. Choose the student and click OK; this assigns the assessment to them.
- Administer in the assessment as directed, filling in the student’s responses. If you need to stop before you complete the assessment, click the Exit button at top right. This will save your progress and show the assessment as Unsubmitted in ClassView Pro.
- When you have completed the assessment, use the Go To button at the bottom of the screen to go to the Review/End card, then click Submit.
- You will be taken to ClassView Pro for that assessment and can make adjustments there. Go to the Actions column at far right and click on the three dots to see your options.
If you would like to assign the assessment to all the students you plan to assess first and then record responses for each student as time permits, follow these steps:
- In the card for the assessment you want to assign, choose Go To ClassView Pro from the far right side of the card.
- From the “I would like to” dropdown, choose Assign to students and fill out the details of the assignment. Be sure to set the end date with enough time for you to complete the assessment for all the students. This will populate a row for each student.
- When you’re ready to administer the assessment, go to the row for the student you are going to assess, then locate the Actions column at far right and click on the three dots. Choose Complete for Student.
Observe This Class
This flow is used for class or group assessments in which you are reflecting on how the class or group is doing as a whole. It can also be used to record participation of students in a specific lesson in Lesson Flow. To complete an observation, follow these steps:
- Locate the assessment you would like to complete or the lesson you plan to teach. In the far right side of the card, click Observe this class from the dropdown.
- A window will appear in which you choose to Create a new observation or Resume observation. Then click Open or Open in New Window.
- Complete the assessment as indicated or teach the lesson. If you need to stop before you finished, click the Exit button at top right. Or, click Submit if you are finished.
- The window Observation Options will open. This provides you with several options:
- Save for later: The state of progress is saved and can be revisited. One entry under the teacher will appear in ClassView Pro.
- Submit for self: Submit this content as finished. One entry under the teacher will appear in ClassView Pro as completed.
- Submit observation, duplicate for students: Duplicate the work for all students to record for attendance and submit them as completed. You will be prompted to choose which students were in attendance, and you will see a row for each student selected in ClassView Pro.
- Assign to students: Create copies of the lesson for all selected students and make available for students to continue to work independently. You will be prompted to choose the students who will receive this assignment, and you will see a row for each selected student in ClassView Pro. Entries will be in a Started status for students to complete independently.
Make your selection, then choose Save and Exit. If you chose Save for later, you can continue the observation from the Actions column by clicking on the three dots and making your selection.
Assignments Tab
This view shows all of the assignments you have made as well as their statuses. Assigned work will most often be assessments, but you may also assign practice work or decodables to students. You can filter by status, or search by keyword. When you want to look at the details for a specific assignment, click the button Go To ClassView Pro.
ClassView Pro
This view shows you details for a specific assignment. If you are viewing an assessment, click on the circled i icon next to the assessment title to see Interpretation guidance. Just below the title is a reminder of the type of assessment. Next is the class you are working with. Finally, note the three tabs just below the assessment title.
- Summary: Each row in this view shows you the assignment of this assessment to a specific student (and if applicable, multiple assignments of this assessment to the same student). Note the three options for reporting: Grades to Reports, Grades to Students, and Students Can Review. The default setting you will see were chosen specifically for that assessment or assignment by Collaborative Classroom, but you can choose to change any of them.
- Details: In this view, you can review the student’s scores and answers for each question of the assessment. The document icon indicates that you can review the entire assessment; click on the eye icon in the specific student’s row to see their assessment. The rest of the columns allow you to look at each question in the assessment; hover over the icon at the top of the column to see which question it shows.
- Standards: This view allows you to see how the questions align to standards. It is under construction.
Reporting
The Learning Portal generates detailed reports at multiple levels:
- District Level: Gain a bird's-eye view of performance across your entire district
- School Level: Compare performance between schools and identify institution-wide trends.
- Class Level: Enable teachers to assess the effectiveness of their instruction and identify class-wide areas for improvement.
- Student Level: Provide individualized insights for targeted support and enrichment
A Program Report will show an administrator all the items that have been set as viewable in reports within that course. The admin can view data for these items summarized at the four levels mentioned above. The structure of the report will mirror the structure set up by Collaborative Classroom for a specific program/grade level, and within that structure the admin can view at a high level or drill down to a very specific level.
