The letter formation instruction in the Being a Reader program is based on stroke sequence. Letters with similar strokes are grouped together, and more challenging letters come later in the sequence. For example, in kindergarten, the letters T, I, L, H, F, E are taught before C, O, Q, G because straight lines are easier for early writers to form than curved ones. Below is the order in which capital and lowercase letters and punctuation are taught.
T, I, L, H, F, E, C, O, Q, G, U, N, M, K, V, W, X, Y, A, Z, D, P, B, R, J, S, ?, c, o, s, v, w, x, z, l, t, j, u, r, m, n, h, b, k, a, d, e, f, p, j, g, y, q, !
