While you won’t be facilitating the reading as you did when students were reading the Story Book, you will still continue to engage with students by listening in, observing, and prompting appropriately. Use the same prompts used during instruction to support students in doing their own thinking.
Throughout the transition from decodable texts to “easy-to-read” trade books, students become even more responsible for their own learning. Students will complete a reading log on a regular basis to keep track of the books and pages they have read, and you will regularly track their fluency on a Fluency Record sheet (see Appendix B of your SIPPS Extension Teacher’s Manual for more information).
