Alphabet knowledge and phonological awareness are explicitly taught during "Super Sounds" in the Every Child Ready Morning Meeting component to foster strong literacy skills in children.
Super Sounds introduces two letters a week. The uppercase and lowercase letters are presented together, along with the sound through playful games and activities.
While children will be taught proper letter formation, research by Cindy Jones shows that children ages 3–4 should be more focused on practice and learning letter shapes in a variety of ways. This helps them develop fine motor skills and hand-strength that will help them when they receive more formal handwriting instruction later.
You can see the scope and sequence of when letter names are taught, started on page 11 here.
