Topics may be repeated across several grades as they continue to be relevant to students. The scenarios, open-ended questions, and application to Class Meeting discussions vary. Even when the type of activity during the Morning or Advisory Circles may be similar, typically the content within those activities is varied to meet the developmental needs and interests of the students at that grade level, and the nuances of the approach may be different. The lessons build in complexity and sophistication from year to year as students deepen their understanding of themselves and each other.
Each year is a new classroom community, which is why a new set of norms and agreements are developed each year. As students form new relationships with one another, the activities and Class Meeting conversations bring new and fresh perspectives. As students grow in their own SEL development, they can bring their own “new selves'' to the content as well.
