While the Caring School Community program is not a "mindfulness" curriculum, there are places in the curriculum where mindfulness techniques for focusing one’s attention on what is happening within, both physically and emotionally, at the present moment are practiced. Students are taught self-calming techniques, and early in the year they learn how to take a break when they need a moment to calm down and regroup. In several Topic Weeks throughout the year, students discuss and practice ways to calm themselves when they are feeling angry or upset or need to reduce feelings of stress.
