Standards Correlation

Last Updated: Dec 23, 2015 11:01AM PST
How has the content changed to correspond with the CCSS foundational standards?
The CCSS raised the demands for reading complex text at all grade levels. After reviewing the standards carefully, we made the following adjustments:
  • The most significant change is the recommendation that kindergarten students complete SIPPS Beginning Level.
  • Small changes were made to the phonological awareness strand to provide additional practice with dropping and replacing initial and final phonemes.
  • Specific instruction in two-syllable decoding was added to SIPPS Extension Level and SIPPS Plus.
Are the program specific reading materials correlated with any leveling system?
The SIPPS student reading materials (Beginning Level Little Books, Extension Level Story Book, and Plus Level Dreams on Wheels) are based on a very different instructional model from “guided reading” in leveled text. The SIPPS reading material is closely matched to the instructional sequence for spelling-sounds and high-frequency words so that the students can be successful reading every word.
